PRELIMINARY EVENTS

There are 7 Preliminary Events taking place on Friday and Saturday.

STOCKMAN'S GEAR CHECK
10% of the score counting towards the Challenge.
Horse and Rider's gear must comply with the recognised criteria of Australian stockman's gear
and deemed by the Judge to be safe and suited to rugged bush riding.
PACKHORSE
Competitors must pack their competition horse for the Packhorse but revert to riding this horse for the Stockhandling
Once packed, the competitor leads the packhorse through and obstacle course and unpacks at the Campsite, before resaddling the competition horse.
STOCK HANDLING
After the Packhorse section competitors proceed immediately to Stock Handling, cutting out 3 beasts in campdraft format. 
Then using a dog, move the stock through an obstacle course within a set time limit.


WHIPCRACK
Competitors attempt to cleanly cut targets within a set time limit and then perform their Whipcrack Freestyle routine.
HORSE SHOEING - Seniors
Seniors are to prepare and shoe one hind and one fron hoof in a set time.
HORSE SHOEING - Juniors
Juniors are to prepare one hoof for shoeing and then under the supervision of a peer, nail on a prepared shoe using 4 nails.

BAREBACK OBSTACLE
Riding bareback and using their own choice of horse's headger, competitors are to complete an obstacle course designed to demonstrate skill, control and manoeuvrability of their horse.

They then perform their Barceback Freestyle routine.


CROSS COUNTRY
Using the same stock saddle used throughout the competition, carrying a full length oilskin on the horse, and a stockwhip in the hand, competitors complete a course of approximately 2km with 20 jumps, as close as possible to an optimum time.
After the 7 Preliminary Events, scores are tallied to determine the Finalists
Top 10 Open; Top 5 Ladies; Top 3 Novice and Top 3 Juniors


OBSTACLE TIME TRIAL (Novice and Junior)
Takes place on Saturday Night.

Finalists must complete a set course of obstacles and tasks in the fastest possible time.


WILD HORSE CATCH (Open and Ladies)
Finalists are to attempt to rope and catch in an arena, a previously unhandled horse and then attempt to lead and show some control.


STOCK SADDLE BUCKJUMP (Open)

Using the same stocksaddle and gear used throughout the competition, finalists are to attempt to retain their seat, for 8 seconds, on a bucking horse whilst cracking their stockwhip.
