Showcasing the horsemanship skills of today’s Australian stockmen and women

As the dust settles and the adrenaline rises, competitors face tough events set to test the most skilled horses and riders. Exhibiting unwavering skills, the stockmen and women are challenged til we find the King of the Ranges.

What is a Stockman’s Challenge?

The King of the Ranges Stockmen’s Challenge showcases the traditional skills of Australian stockmen and women over an exciting and intense 3 day challenge.

Competition is fierce to accumulate points for cattle work, packhorse work, bareback riding, target whip cracking, horseshoeing and cross country obstacle jumping.

Finalists further display skill and courage in catching and leading a wild horse and riding a buckjumper to determine who will be the 2024 King of the Ranges.

The King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge is a living tribute to the Stockmen and Women of Australia.

Bush Festival

The King of the Ranges Bush Festival is all about famous folklore, long tales, traditional skills and crazy fun. Here's a taste of what's to come.

The King of the Ranges is pleased to invite riders to a training weekend to improve their skills and confidence in the preliminary events leading up to the 2024 Challenge. Expert coaches will be training participants.

27-28 July 2024

• Rosedale Horse Complex, Murrurundi NSW.

• $300 per rider for the weekend.

• The weekend is open to all riders of all experience levels and any age. Juniors and Striplings included.

• All you need is your horse, helmet and saddle. If you have a stock whip, or an extra horse for shoeing or packsaddle please bring along.

• Camping at Rosedale is available Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, please bring portable yards/tape.

• We’ll set up a pre-order form for breakfast and lunch over the Saturday and Sunday.

• Dinner and a Q&A discussion about challenge rules etc. will be happening Saturday night.

• Nominations will open at the beginning of July via iCompete.
